Jorge Ordoñez, Fine Estate Wines from Spain
Jorge Ordoñez, the human dynamo who imports Spain ’s biggest, deepest wine portfolio to America , draws
from an astonishing portfolio - 13O wines from 4O wineries. Renowned wine critic Robert Parker of Wine
Advocate has called JORGE ORDONEZ one of ‘the most influential wine personalities in America ’ on more than one occasion. This is because of his commitment to finding the finest small bodegas in Spain , helping them to perfect their wines and introducing them here in the U.S. , often to rave reviews. Focusing on elegant and exceptional old vineyard wines, working directly with winemakers and celebrating not just Tempranillo but also Grenache and numerous other varietals, Ordoñez has carved a place for Spanish wine abroad. He is a ‘blue chip’ importer, bar none.

Don’t forget to join us this Saturday for our SMOKIN’ BBQ and Delicious BEERS!! For details visit www.Harmoni Market.com under our Food Letter Section or simply click here!

The wines selected for this Spanish wine tasting are:
Marques de Gelida Cava
“Perhaps the best sparkling wine value in the marketplace, there are 3,000 cases of the Marques de Gelida Brut Exclusive, a 35% Macabeo, 30% Xarel-lo, 20% Parellada, and 15% Chardonnay blend that is aged for three and a half years before being released. A delicious estate-bottled sparkling cava with tiny pinpoint bubbles as well as crisp, yeasty brioche, apple skin, and white peach-like characteristics, this bargain-priced beauty should be consumed over the next year.” 90 pts – Robert Parker

Naia Verdejo 2006, Rueda
“A 100% Verdejo cuvee, the 2005 Naia is fresh, lively, and aromatic with superb precision and plenty of crisp, lemony, honeysuckle-like fruit. Fermented and aged in steel, it is the type of light yet soulful white that frequently emerges from Spain . It would be a wonderful match with grilled seafood or shellfish over the next year.” 88 pts – Robert Parker on the previous vintage

Vega Sindoa “El Chaparral” Garnacha
“The old vine Grenache (60-100 years) cuvee, the 2005 Vega Sindoa El Chaparral was aged on its lees for five months, and given a light filtration. It possesses a dark ruby color, crisp acidity, notes of raspberries and cherries, and beautiful texture, elegance, and finesse. Reminiscent of a high-class Pinot Noir, this delicate yet flavorful red should be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.” 89 pts – Robert Parker on the previous vintage

Allende Rioja 2004
“The 2004 Allende, a 100% Tempranillo cuvee, was barrel fermented in a mix of new and used French oak,
remained in barrel for 13 months, and was bottled unfiltered. The wine is inky purple-colored and has a superb nose of pain grille, mineral, violets, cranberry, and blueberry. The youthful palate reveals layers of fruit, ripe tannin, and excellent balance. The wine merits another 3-4 years of bottle age and should drink well through 2020. Kudos to Finca Allende for a magnificent set of 2004 Riojas!” 92 pts – Robert Parker

Marti Fabra Seleccio Vinyes Velles (Old Vine Selection) 2003, Costa Brava, Spain
“Aged 10 months in French oak, the unfined/unfiltered 2003 Marti Fabra Seleccio Vinyes Velles (70% Grenache, 10% Carignan, 10% Tempranillo, and equal parts Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits a rich, sweet perfume of black cherries and earth, an elegant attack, medium to full body, good depth as well as ripeness, and a long finish. 90 pts – Robert Parker

Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero, 2004
“The reasonably priced 2004 Emilio Moro is a terrific Ribera del Duero aged in equal parts French and American oak prior to bottling. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a projected nose of blackberries, currants, cherries, smoky oak, and crushed rocks. Terrific texture, super purity, an opulent, full-bodied palate, and a long, heady finish suggest it will keep for 7-8 years.” 92 pts – Robert Parker

Cenit Old Vines Tempranillo 2004, Vines de la Tierra, Spain
“The deep purple-colored 2004 Cenit offers more nuances, complexity, and aromatic intensity (graphite, blackberries, blueberries, and spice box) than the 2003 along with great elegance allied with fabulous richness and full body. It should drink well for a decade. Think of it as a more delineated, complex version of the 2003.” 92 pts – Robert Parker

Jorge Ordonez “Seleccion Especial” Late Harvest Muscat 2005
“The 2005 Seleccion Especial is a lovely elixir with floral and tropical aromatics and flavors of peach, apricot, mango, and kiwi. The fermentation is stopped when the wine achieves 12% alcohol leaving 120g/l of residual sugar. On the palate it has a supple, viscous texture and good length.” 90 pts – Robert Parker
